The development of the Millennium Quarter provides a wide range of opportunities
for the ongoing physical regeneration of the Isle of Dogs and in particular the area
in which the development will take place. It will additionally create extra pressures
and demands on the social and community infrastructure for services both in respect
of the newly arriving resident population and employer/employee population. The
demands will require additional support for activities relating to health and wellbeing,
sport and recreation, education and supplementary education, community activities
and facilities, vocational and other training, faith activities, recruitment and employability.
The Isle of Dogs Community Foundation is to be given the responsibility of co-ordinating
the various social and community needs that have been identified, has been given £5 million of funding from the financial contributions received from developers over a period of up to 10 years.
