IDCF Today
The Isle of Dogs Community Foundation has evolved into more than just a fundraising and grant-giving organisation. It is an effective link between the voluntary, corporate and statutory sectors working within the Isle of Dogs and South Poplar area of East London. IDCF is helping to focus priorities for addressing local needs and commissioning services where required.
The Foundation helps to ease the burden from local groups of having to seek funds from the corporate sector. Moreover, it assists them in accessing new and innovative funding sources and supports community groups with training, advice and guidance. Grants are geared to assist community groups in acquiring the knowledge and ability to become self-sufficient.
Investment is also made in addressing the skills that local people need to compete for meaningful jobs on the Canary Wharf estate. A priority in the present economic downturn is the need to add to the endowment. This figure stands at £4 million and IDCF is working hard to attract additional funds and widen its base of supporters.
More than just grants
The Foundation provides more than just financial assistance.
As a local community organisation, IDCF activities and funding are often responsible for making things happen and bringing people together.
In the past year, our services assisted many local groups by providing them with an opportunity to access free professional advice. IDCF has also set up the Childcare Network (a networking group for childcare providers in the area) and Docklands 50+ Forum (a networking group for those providing services to older members of the community).
In the coming year we will continue to organise networking events to encourage groups to work together more efficiently, not only strengthening the community and voluntary sector locally, but also providing professional development opportunities.
